The Apologist

This is meant to be a good weekend. It was the first weekend I was going to spend with X, and me and him were going to hang out. I was really looking forward to it. We were going to go to the seaside and hunt easter eggs and watch Star Wars.
It's been a very hard day for reasons I have not been able to control. If I could've had some influence over them, I think I would've. On Thursday, I had my second MMR jab. I felt fairly rough, but I thought I'd get over it. Then, on Friday night, I went to bed and woke up about 24 times throughout the night with a pounding headache, chronic backache and I felt.. crippled. I was up at 5.57. X was up at 6.05. By 9.49 I'd just about managed to put on my underwear. I had to ring E, and ask her to pick up X as I was incapable of looking after him. I was running sweats yet had goosepimples, despite wearing a tshirt and a jumper with the hood up and jeans. It appears I've got influenza. Then again, it could be a case of a fairly minor case of MMR. Doesn't feel minor.
Unfortunately, I feel as if I've let everyone down. X was waiting and relying on me to look after him, and I simply couldn't. I had plans and I was unable. I feel as if despite my best efforts I simply couldn't. It wasn't through a lack of wanting or trying. In the end, I slept maybe from 6.30 to 8.10, then maybe 11.10 to 11.40, then 2.30ish to around 5.00. I hate letting people down. So to everyone, I apologise. I tried my best, and the best wasn't quite good enough. What a waste of a weekend.

Ah, shit. I guess you could have a fairly minor case of measles, mumps or rubella (shurely not all of them at once, that would be beyond hideous) - my utterly non-medical non-expert opinion is that it might well be that rather than the 'flu, just because the few times in my life I've had the 'flu, even typing out a short blog post would have been utterly beyond me (as would walking the few paces to the bathroom and back without passing out) - maybe I've just been especially unlucky with the 'flu, though.
Anyway. That fucking sucks. How are you feeling now? Better, I hope... and if you're having a reaction to the MMR jab, that is unlucky but probably not that unusual. I had to get one (first of the 'course' I don't intend to complete anytime soon because nobody is forcing me to do so) in order to qualify for my visa to move here (the US, that is, for the benefit of any passing readers) - I had a couple of other jabs on the same day, and can definitely say I experienced symptoms much like coming down with a particularly nasty cold (nothing like any 'flu I've ever experienced, but it seems I've only ever had the baaaad, nasty 'flu!) a few days later - glands up all over the place (I mean, really, alarmingly swollen glands), fever, feeling generally achy and shitty... took a few days to subside.
So yeah... now I think of it, that MMR jab might well be to blame! Hope you feel better soon!

Pretty typical reaction, if you ask me. I had some injection or other before we went on holiday and I appeared to have raging flu for exactly one day afterwards.
Anyway, need it be said, I hope you feel better soon.

I had measles as a kid (my mum didn't get us immunised against anything due to hippyness) and it was utterly hideous. I recall having to lie in a darkened room for days in case of going blind.
Rubella's generally very mild as I recall. The reason women get the vaccination is that you don't know you have it most times, and it can have a big impact on unborn children, leading to severe disabilities.
So that leaves mumps, which I've never had, or flu, which I have. Whatever, it stinks, and I hope you feel better soon.
