Notcast 247 : Today I talk about R.E.M. fifteenth (and final) studio album "Collapse Into Now", released in March 2011. This album was the band saying goodbye - though hardly anyone noticed at the time - with no live shows, and the band literally waving goodbye on the cover, as well as a lot of lyrics that rotate around change, time, history, and the passing of the baton onto a new generation. Also featured is the single "Oh My Heart", and the 1982-2011 compilation "Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage", a thematic journey through the changing formats of time from cassette, to 7", to LP, to CD, to Wi-Fi / Radio, and the band going back to where they belong. The last word in the last lyric of the last song is the first word of the title of their first single. We all go back to where we belong, indeed! 06 November 2022.
