ERASURE, ALWAYS (Deluxe Edition)

It does make you wonder why Erasure are on this (their fourth best of in the past twenty years). After time, the band have seemingly dried up as a commercial proposition, occupying a far smaller island than they used to, and seemingly fell from a highprofile around 1994, but.. does it matter? Not really. There's a pointless single CD version, if you're one of the 4 people in the UK that doesn't own either the 1992, 2003, or 2009 greatest hits releases. In fact, the only point to buying this, is to pick up the 3CD version, which contains 23 remixes, one of each of the main 19 hits on the first disc, and four extra singles. Each of the mixes is immaculately chosen, with extra verses and vocals, new elements, each a refreshing take on the original, including several brand new remixes designed for this, and a few by Vince Clarke himself. To be honest, if you're an Erasure fan, you'll never play the first CD, and the two and a half hours of remixes on CD 2+3 are the real draw here, the real interest. They're most chronological, and all are well worth a listen. Think of it as a huge remix album with a greatest hits CD bundled in, and you're on a winner.
